RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth

The RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth is an innovative, new program designed to empower and enable. Through the Scholarship, Black youth will be supported in achieving their goals by receiving financial and mentorship support from RBC and our community partners.

About the Scholarship

The RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth will award 20 scholarships annually valued up to $10,000 per year to Black students across Canada. Successful candidates will also have access to a range of services which may include:

  • Mentorship

  • Academic and career planning

  • Tutoring

  • Internship Opportunities

  • Networking

Eligibility

  • You identify as a Black Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee.

  • You are a high school student entering the 11th or 12th grade in the upcoming academic year to receive mentorship and other non-financial supports OR a student enrolled in post-secondary studies in the upcoming academic year.

  • You are not an RBC employee or a dependent of an RBC employee.

  • You aspire to post-secondary studies at the vocational, college diploma or bachelor degree level.

  • You must be nominated by an approved RBC community partner.

  • Recipients of the RBC Capital Markets Pathways Diversity Awards program are not eligible for this scholarship.

Eligible Institutions

Canadian educational institutions which have recognized provincial degree/diploma-granting powers, or their affiliates (e.g. vocational schools, colleges, universities)

Field of Study/Program

  • There are no restrictions on the discipline or field of study

  • The program must be a minimum of one year in duration

  • University preparatory programs in any jurisdiction are not eligible

Community Partners

Community partners play a key role in this program in 2 key areas1:

Nomination of scholarship candidates

RBC Future Launch works with Community Partners who are in relationship with Black youth in their communities. Community Partners nominate between one and five Black youth in their network by submitting their name and contact; and these nominees go on to complete an application. The number of nominees each Community Partner is allocated will be pre-determined based on a variety of factors.

Ongoing engagement and support

Community Partners continue to engage with RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth recipients throughout the course of their education journey to support them with academic services, mentorship, networking, and other programming as determined by each unique Community Partner.
