Group Head, AI
As Group Head of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bruce Ross partners across RBC’s businesses and functions to prioritize and accelerate our strategic AI ambitions at scale. In this role, he leads a team of top AI scientists and engineers accountable for building out the enterprise AI architecture, tooling and data platforms; turning AI research into new opportunities anchored to our global growth strategy; building AI partnerships, and ensuring RBC is a market leader in trust, controls and governance. As a member of the Group Executive, Bruce is one of 12 executives responsible for setting the overall strategic direction for Canada’s biggest bank.
Bruce is a seasoned, global leader with more than 30 years of technology and business experience and joined RBC in 2014 as Group Head, Technology & Operations. In his tenure in this role, Bruce spearheaded a transformative technology strategy, driving key imperatives for RBC including: leveraging data and insights to deliver value for clients; keeping RBC and clients safe with a world-class cybersecurity strategy, and investments in emerging technologies. In 2024, Bruce played a critical leadership role in the successful integration of HSBC Bank Canada.
Previously, Bruce was General Manager, Global Technology Services, North America at IBM. He facilitated the long-term operational and business direction for the organization as a member of their Strategy and Performance teams. Throughout his tenure, Bruce held increasingly senior roles across several international markets, including General Manager, Global Technology Services for North America and Europe, and President of IBM Canada, providing thought leadership and strategic counsel to financial institutions globally.
Bruce is a professional engineer and a graduate of Western University, which presented him with an honorary Doctor of Laws in 2025. He is active in a number of business and community organizations in Canada such as the United Way and has served as a Board Member for both the International Board of Advisors as well as Western University. In recognition of his transformational leadership, Bruce was named Canadian CIO of the Year in 2017 by the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC).
