If you are an international student who purchased a GIC
through the HSBC Bank Canada International Student GIC
Program (ISP), you were provided with information on page 70
of the RBC Product Migration Guide. This information has
changed as follows:
- Your GIC will be migrated to a Non-Redeemable GIC at Royal Bank of Canada.
- If your GIC has not issued any payments prior to migration, after migration to Royal Bank of Canada, it will be converted to an RBC Income Builder GIC, that will distribute payments monthly to you for up to one year, until your original investment amount and applicable interest has been returned to you.
- If your GIC has issued at least one payment prior to migration, we will be redeeming your GIC, without penalty, and distributing a one-time payment of all remaining principal and accrued interest payments to you at your next scheduled payment date.
-
You were provided with information on page 68 of the RBC
Product Migration Guide in regards to leap year interest
calculations related to your Term Deposits or GICs. Please
refer to the updated information below:
- You may notice a difference in interest rate calculations for leap years on your migrated GICs and Term Deposits. This may give rise to a difference in the amount of interest you will receive at maturity, as disclosed in your Confirmation from HSBC Bank Canada. As such, we will credit you the difference between the interest amount disclosed to you on your HSBC Bank Canada Confirmation that was issued at the time of your purchase, and the amount calculated by RBC systems, in the months following migration. You will be notified once the credit is processed via direct mail.
