  • Double dose of help. A 19-member team of RBC employees and clients took part in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and raised over $200,000 for the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. (September 2004)

  • RBC donates $150,000 to HIV/AIDS research. RBC has donated $150,000 to Canadian Foundation for AIDS research (CANFAR), a privately funded, charitable organization raising awareness in order to generate funds for research in the clinical, biological and social sciences of HIV infection and AIDS. (March 2004)

  • RBC sponsors charity concert featuring Holly Cole. In support of building and furnishing a new Paediatric Operating Room at North York General Hospital. (February 2004)

Local Initiatives

  • RBC Financial Group made a donation towards Saskatchewan Cancer Agency's mammography mobile-bus. Each year the Saskatchewan Screening Program for Breast Cancer provides mammograms to between 36,000 - 40,000 women who are 50 years and older throughout the province.

  • Britannia, Alberta: Five RBC employees shaved their heads to raise more than $7,600 for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.

  • Camrose, Alberta: Ten RBC Royal Bank employees entered the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life, raising over $2,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Participants took turns walking, running or strolling around a track in a non-competitive relay.

  • Calgary, Alberta: Odell Sinclair shaved her head for the United Way, raising $5,000 and donating her locks to the Canadian Cancer Society. Rory Barrow also shaved his head, raising $1,600.

  • Cochrane, Alberta: Employees at RBC Royal Bank pedaled their hearts out on a 30-seat bike to help raise funds for the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

  • Grand Prairie, Alberta: James Chrenek of RBC Dominion Securities presented a $5,000 donation to the QEII Hospital Foundation. The funds are for the neonatal intensive care unit project.

  • Hinton, Alberta: RBC Royal Bank's Hinton branch raised over $1,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. RBC's Weena Mandziak led the volunteer efforts by personally raising over $550 to the branch's total.

  • Kamloops, British Columbia: RBC sponsored Up Close and Personal, a meet-and-greet event for fans to meet athletes at the Canada Cup of Curling. Canada's elite curlers compete in the event, with all profits from the meet-and-greet going to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

  • Kelligrews, Newfoundland and Labrador: Heavy wind and torrential rain couldn't keep RBC employees from taking part in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The "RBC Kicks Cancer" team raised over $3,000 for cancer research and won first place in the banner design contest.

  • Moncton, New Brunswick: Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation accepted a donation of $6,000 from RBC Royal Bank for state-of-the-art monitors for their medical/surgical and neurosurgical intensive care units.

  • Pictou, Nova Scotia: The RBC Foundation donated $5,000 to Camp Maxwell, a camp for children with diabetes in Pictou. In 2004, over 120 children attended the camp and for many of them, it was the first time away from home.

  • Regina, Saskatchewan: RBC employees collected pledges for the annual Big Bike Ride for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Twenty-nine riders worked diligently to raise $3,927 for the cause. In addition, when a Heart and Stroke Foundation employee suffered a serious stroke shortly before the Big Bike Ride, the RBC team changed their name from "RBC Water Rats" to "Rauchelle's Water Rats" to support her personal ride to recovery.

  • Rocky Mount, North Carolina: For the third consecutive year, RBC Centura sponsored the 2004 Nash County Relay for Life. This is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. RBC Centura had a team of employees who worked for months on various fundraisers, raising more then $11,000. The event itself raised more than $210,000 for cancer research and treatment programs.

  • St. John, New Brunswick: In addition to once again accepting public donations for the Terry Fox Run, RBC employees personally took part in the Terry Fox Run and raised over $300 for cancer research.

  • St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador: RBC Royal Bank branches in St. John's and area took part in the Big Bike Ride for Heart and Stroke. Employees raised over $12,000 and the RBC Foundation donated an additional $5,000.

  • Taber, Alberta: Financial institutions across central and southern Alberta raised $101,000 in the 2004 Power of Flower campaign to support the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. RBC raised a record-setting total of $19,647 through the sale of colourful stems. In Taber, RBC Royal Bank raised nearly $150 per full-time employee.
