When
Royal Bank opened in Leduc, Alberta, in 1947 there was
no space available in the town, so the branch opened
in the town's Council Chamber. When the council met,
the bank staff would close their books and retire to
the closest coffee shop.
Fieldwork
The manager of a branch in the heart of the Alberta oil patch is getting a demonstration of the drilling process in this photo taken in 1955 for Royal Bank's Annual Report. Visiting customers on their home ground was one of the secrets of success for branches located in oil rich areas.
