1960 - 1979

Onto the Global Stage:
The 1960s and the End of Parochialism

Selling automation, 1973
The introduction of automated banking machines was nothing short of a revolution in personal banking. It was also an advertiser's dream - selling the new product required only one short sentence telling customers just how easy and convenient everyday banking had become.

Bankettes
Installed on the outside walls of the branches, Bankettes permitted customers to make deposits, transfer funds between accounts, make loan payments, pay utility bills, make Chargex (renamed Visa* in 1977) payments and make cash withdrawals on their Savings, Chargex or Personal Chequing accounts of up to $100 daily - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
