TORONTO, August 15, 2019 - RBC’s leading application programming interface (API) strategy has been recognized with its second industry award this year, as the Large Private Sector winner at the 2019 IT World Canada (ITWC) Digital Transformation Awards. These awards celebrate the ability for companies to build innovative solutions that drive modernization.

The award win continues to showcase RBC’s ability to bring a leading API strategy to banking, which includes the launch of three API platforms: an external public API portal; an internal private portal; and a partner API platform.

“We continue to see the transformational effect that APIs are having across industries. Most importantly, APIs are helping RBC drive innovation to deliver leading-edge solutions for our clients, partners and the technology community,” said Bob Blainey, VP, P&CB Architecture and Platform Engineering. “We’re proud that our innovative API approach was recognized for a second time this year.”

RBC was the first Canadian bank to launch an external API platform – RBC Developers™. RBC Developers enables eligible external software developers, industry innovators and clients to access select RBC APIs to increase connectivity, create new tools and experiences for clients, and enable open and innovative collaboration to improve the future of banking.

This is the second time this year that RBC’s API strategy has received an industry award. In April 2019, RBC was recognized with a Celent Model Bank Award for the most holistic and pervasive API approach. The Celent Model Bank Awards recognize best practices of technology usage in different areas critical to success in banking, and is the main award that a financial institution (FI) can receive from Celent. It acknowledges a financial institution’s effective use of technology in specific areas.
