Thomas provides geopolitical analysis to the bank’s top executives, clients, and other stakeholders. Focusing on the intersection of global politics and markets, Thomas tracks and reports on developments that matter most to Canada’s economic and strategic position in the world. He also serves on the board of directors of Royal College Canada International, a global leader in transforming postgraduate medical education and delivering aid that has supported projects in over 40 countries. Prior to joining RBC, Thomas worked as a senior consultant and chief of staff at one of Canada’s leading public affairs firm. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

Lisa Ashton
Interim Head of CAI & Policy Lead, Agriculture and Nature
Lisa leads research and stakeholder engagement on climate, agriculture and food, and nature. Prior to joining RBC, she worked at a trade association and as a consultant working with farmers and their agri-food supply chains to design programs and strategies that advance sustainability outcomes. Lisa’s passion for Canada’s agriculture sector—and its role as a global leader in production, innovation, and sustainability—was shaped by her upbringing on her family’s farm in southwestern Ontario. This early interest led her to pursue post-graduate degrees in Ireland, Germany, and most recently at the University of Guelph, where she completed her PhD.

Caprice Biasoni
Design Lead
Caprice plays a key role in the editorial and publishing team. She enhances the group’s work through editorial design, digital articles, social media, and email communications, while maintaining RBC’s brand identity. Prior to joining RBC, Caprice graduated from George Brown Polytechnics’ School of Design and worked as a lead designer for an SaaS platform and at a digital marketing agency supporting various clients.
Nora Bieberstein
Director, Strategic Programs
Nora oversees the strategic amplification and engagement of the team’s Disruptive Tech portfolio. She is responsible for liaising with the team’s innovation partners, launching meaningful initiatives to amplify key portfolio insights, planning high-impact engagements, and driving actionable outcomes. Nora has been with RBC since 2017 in various capacities, ranging from innovation, partnerships and strategic program development. Originally from Germany, she graduated from Erasmus University in Rotterdam with a Master’s Degree in Media and Journalism.
Jordan Brennan
Managing Director, Thought Leadership
As Managing Director, Jordan helps set the research agenda for RBC Thought Leadership. His mandate spans research design, data architecture, and empirical analysis. Previously, Jordan served as Vice-President of Policy and Chief Economist at the Insurance Bureau of Canada and as Chief Economist at Unifor. A Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, Jordan has held senior advisory roles with public sector officials and published widely in economics and public policy. He was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School and holds a PhD in Political Economics.

Jen Gorman
Senior Manager, Communications
Jen leads media relations and communications strategy, shaping how research and insights reach journalists, partners and stakeholders. Jen holds a law degree from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, and specializes in translating complex research and analysis into clear and compelling narratives. Journalists and stakeholders seeking expert insight or timely commentary should connect with her directly.
Yadullah Hussain
Managing Editor
Yadullah is responsible for shaping content narratives, as well as editing and writing for Thought Leadership and the Climate Action Institute. He also curates Climate Crunch, a climate-focused newsletter and co-edits The Current Account, RBC’s internal newsletter. Prior to joining RBC in 2022, he spent over 25 years working as a business editor and reporter in Canada, the UAE, the U.K., and Pakistan, covering economics, markets, climate, energy and geopolitics.
John Intini
Senior Director, Editorial
John is responsible for the unit’s editorial and digital content strategy. He leads a multi-disciplinary team responsible for producing high-impact Thought Leadership projects (including major reports and multi-media content) on the biggest forces shaping Canadian business and the economy.
Prior to joining RBC, John was a Vice-President at Rakuten Kobo and also worked at Rogers Media for nearly 20 years in various roles, including Editor-in-Chief at Sportsnet and Vice-President of Content of the Publishing Division. He earned an Executive MBA from the Ivey Business School in 2020.
Lavanya Kaleeswaran
Director, Digital Marketing
Lavanya is responsible for amplifying the team’s digital footprint through website, email and social channels.
Prior to joining RBC, Lavanya had accumulated more than 12 years of experience in various digital marketing functions including SEO, paid search, social, website development while working in tech and media agencies. Lavanya also teaches Digital Marketing at BrainStation in Toronto.
Charles Ketchabaw
Senior Manager, Multimedia
Charles directs RBC Thought Leadership’s flagship podcast Disruptors. Before joining RBC, Charles co-created The Tale of a Town Canada—travelling to hundreds of communities in a mobile recording studio called The Storymobile, interviewing thousands of Canadians about their main streets and downtowns. A filmmaker and broadcast producer, his work includes an award-winning animated series for TVO and a commissioned film for the National Arts Centre. He holds a Master of Arts from York University and brings a storyteller’s instinct to translating complex ideas for executive and public audiences.
Shaz Merwat
Policy Lead, Energy
Shaz Merwat brings over 13 years of capital markets research experience within the Canadian oil and gas sector and as an Equity Strategist covering a broad range of fundamental macroeconomic issues. He was also a top ranked sustainability/ESG analyst, with his work often cited in global media. Merwat holds Masters degrees from Western University, the London School of Economics and Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Romane Moore
Executive Assistant
With over 20 years of experience supporting senior executives in the banking industry, Romane joined RBC Thought Leadership in 2024 as executive assistant to John Stackhouse. Romane holds an honours Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from York University.
Farhad Panahov
Economist
Farhad contributes to a broad range of research portfolios within the Thought Leadership and Climate Action Institute teams. His work focuses on economic growth, competitiveness and the energy transition, with a specific emphasis on the auto sector and electric vehicles. Bringing strong analytical and quantitative skills to his roles, Farhad has helped develop multiple key assets such as the Climate Action Barometer for the group’s flagship annual Climate Action report. He holds a Master of Applied Science in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Jackie Pichette
Policy Lead, Skills & Higher Education
Jackie drives conversation between policy makers, educators and employers, and provides actionable insights to strengthen Canada’s workforce and human capital advantage. Jackie was previously Director of Policy, Research & Partnerships at the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, a provincial research agency. Jackie has also worked as a consultant at an Indigenous advisory services firm, focusing on workforce development strategies, and was part of the team that launched Simon Fraser University’s Public Square initiative, building connections between the university and surrounding communities. Jackie has a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University and a Master’s of Public Policy from Simon Fraser University.

Joelle Schonberg
Program Manager
Joelle Schonberg supports the delivery of high-impact convenings, platforms, and engagement initiatives that advance the bank’s strategic priorities. Prior to joining RBC, Joelle was the Operations Manager at The Goldie Hawn Foundation, where she supported the delivery and scale of evidence-based mental health and well-being programs. Her background includes program leadership roles across non-profit education and youth development. Joelle holds an undergrad and Master’s Degree from Queen’s University.
Stephanie Shewchuk
Policy Lead, Housing
Stephanie leads research and analysis on Canada’s most pressing housing issues for the group. She brings a deep understanding of the housing system, the policy-making process and a commitment to driving innovative, practical approaches to advance solutions across sectors. Stephanie previously spent ten years at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in various policy and research roles, including work on developing the National Housing Strategy and overseeing the Canadian Housing Survey. Stephanie’s past experience also spans policy and research positions at Canada West Foundation as well as in U.K. politics. Stephanie holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Glasgow and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and French from the University of Calgary.

Sabreen Shukul
Research Associate
Sabreena supports research and analysis for the group. Her work focuses on how technology, innovation policy and shifting geopolitical conditions shape Canada’s competitiveness and business environment. Previously, she supported national-scale value chain development for critical sectors at the National Research Council of Canada, and worked in brand strategy and consumer insights at Procter & Gamble. Sabreena is completing a Master of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto’s Munk School and holds a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of British Columbia.
Vivan Sorab
Policy Lead, Clean Tech
Vivan conducts research on electricity and power, nuclear energy, and natural resources across oil and gas and minerals for RBC Thought Leadership. His background includes upstream oil and gas with a global supermajor and climate technology research with a U.S.-based climate investor group. He attended the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he was an Institute Silver Medalist, and Yale, where he was part of the Yale Journalism Scholars program and served as an editor for the Yale Environment Review and the Yale Journal of International Affairs. Outside work, he enjoys endurance running, having completed eight marathons and ultramarathons across three continents, and trivia.

John is a national bestselling author and one of Canada’s leading voices on innovation and economic disruption. He is Senior Vice-President in the Office of the CEO at Royal Bank of Canada, leading the organization’s research and thought leadership on economic, technological and social change.
Previously, John was editor-in-chief of the Globe and Mail and editor of Report on Business. He is a senior fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute and the Munk School for Global Affairs and Public Policy, and sits on the Board of the Canadian International Council.
John’s latest book, Planet Canada: How Our Expats Are Shaping the Future, explores the untapped resource of the millions of Canadians who don’t live in Canada but exert their influence from afar.
Gianluca Tatone
Director, Strategic Support
Gianluca works closely with John Stackhouse, RBC Senior Vice-President SVP, and the Thought Leadership team to turn ideas into action. He supports senior leadership with research, stakeholder mapping, briefing materials, event strategy, and communications that advance RBC’s convening agenda across Canada and globally. He helps connect policy, markets, and industry insights to practical decisions—helping leaders anticipate risk, identify opportunities, and engage the right partners at the right time. Gianluca was previously Director of Executive Operations to Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance where he supported executing government priorities and strategic engagements. Gianluca holds a Bachlors degree in Criminology from the University of Guelph.
Alanna Whitten
Manager, Content Delivery
Alanna is multi-media and communications professional who started her career with Rogers Sports & Media where she spent five years in promotions and hosting a live radio show. She later expanded her experience with the Ontario Public Service. At RBC, she leads the group’s digital content and executive social media strategy, reaching tens of thousands of followers. With a strong foundation in local broadcasting and creative expertise in storytelling and audience engagement, Alanna specializes in crafting compelling content and telling authentic stories that connect with audiences.
Sydney Wisener
Research Associate
Sydney is focused on global markets, geopolitics, and emerging technologies shaping Canada’s future. Her experience includes supporting dual-use and mining defence ventures at the Creative Destruction Lab, analyzing climate risk on the RBC Global Risk Analytics team, and pitching first-of-a-kind financing solutions at the Global Climate Finance Accelerator. Sydney is completing a Master of Global Affairs from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. Sydney holds a Bachelor of Arts & Science and Biology from McMaster University.
