RBC donates $300,000 to The Learning Partnership

Almost one out of every three Torontonians is a visible minority, and the city's future growth is largely expected to come from immigration. But it's not always easy for new Canadians to integrate into an unknown environment and new way of life: it can be frustrating for both parents and their children. Increasingly, students in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are bringing their frustration right into the classroom.

Change Your Future (CYF), an innovative educational program offered by The Learning Partnership, is designed to increase the odds for success for those students. CYF provides essential support and encouragement to racially diverse students and students from aboriginal communities, with the goal of helping these students stay in school and plan their futures.

CYF program counsellors are placed in school 1.5 days per week, and work with school staff to help participating students in grades seven to 10 overcome barriers, make the right decisions, set goals, build confidence, and engage in a self-help and self-discovery process.

In 2005, RBC donated $300,000 over three years to CYF, and has been a supporter of The Learning Partnership since it was established in 1993.

The Learning Partnership fosters interaction and cooperation among schools, businesses and communities to strengthen publicly funded education, and ensure that children have the best opportunity to learn and develop.
