  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura Bank announced twenty winning finalists in its 'Tribute to Teachers' initiative, a program to recognize and reward elementary and middle school teachers that demonstrate exceptional community leadership. Four finalists were selected in each of the five geographic regions in which RBC Centura does business. Each winner received $500 in 'Classroom Cash,' to be used for classroom learning tools such as art supplies, visual learning aids and workbooks that compliment required textbooks. In total, RBC Centura donated $10,000 under the 'Tribute for Teachers' program. A full list of the 20 honored teachers is available at www.rbccentura.com. (June 2005)

  • Denver, CO.- RBC Dain Rauscher awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 10 high school-age seniors around the state as a part of the company's Colorado Scholarship Fund. Each student received a $2,000 college scholarship for their exceptional achievement in the areas of academics, leadership, community service, athletics and/or the arts. Overcoming significant challenges and financial needs were also taken into consideration. The RBC Dain Rauscher Colorado Scholarship Fund was founded in 2003 through the initiative of RBC Dain Rauscher.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura issued its final installment of a $100,000, four-year pledge to The Nature Conservancy's Forever Wild campaign, designed to protect the ecologically critical and threatened lands and waters across North Carolina. The $25 million capital campaign was launched in 2001. (January 2005)

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. -RBC Centura raised nearly $160,000 for the Rocky Mount Area United Way during the bank's annual campaign drive, surpassing its goal of $150,000 by nearly $10,000 with 60-per cent employee participation, up 18 percent from last year. The total was the most ever donated by Nash and Edgecombe county employees. The contribution will primarily be used to help programs within the United Way such as "Guiding Youth Toward Success," "Providing People with Emergency Assistance & Shelter" and "Improving Local Health Needs."   • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura Bank donated $10,000 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB, to help ACFB relocate to a new facility, which will offer more warehouse capacity and volunteer training areas as well as increase the number of loading docks.). RBC Centura will also support ACFB through employee volunteerism and leadership involvement. In addition, the two organizations are developing programs around food drives and corporate gift matching.   • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura Bank donated $1000 to the Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Smyrna, Ga. local Marine Toys for Tots foundation. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation delivers a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Local Initiatives

  • Cheraw and Dillon, South Carolina: RBC Centura provided $5 million in construction financing for two 40-unit multi-family developments for families displaced from Hurricane Katrina.

  • Miami, Florida: RBC pledged US$15,000 to the "Give to Columbia" campaign, which will encourage US individuals and corporations to donate to Columbian causes by creating capacity in the Columbian not-for-profit sector, and by providing donors with objective and trustworthy information on Colombia and its social needs.


  • Raleigh, North Carolina: RBC participated with "Sailing into financial independence", an event to help promote home ownership, provide investments guidance and business development to young professionals.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C.- RBC Centura funded a $3500 scholarship to Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) in North Carolina. The scholarship will be available to undergraduate students from low-to-moderate income areas interested in pursuing a career in the financial services industry.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura contributed $12,500 to the ACCESS College Foundation to help underprivileged children in Tidewater Virginia gain access to higher education. More than 30,000 students and their families have received help with college entrance examinations, applying for financial aid, submitting final applications and enrolling in college.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura donated $25,000 to Artspace, a nonprofit visual art and education center in Raleigh, N.C. that attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year. Artspace presents exhibitions and educational programs in an open-studio environment, will use RBC Centura's donation to improve its facilities and expand its educational programs.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura donated $2,400 to fund financial education curriculum at Camp Challenge, a summer camp for high-achieving middle-school students from low-income families. Camp Challenge emphasizes financial literacy to help young people build secure financial futures.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura donated $10,000 to Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C., to help fund construction of a new science building, and an additional $10,000 for scholarship aid through the bank's gift to the Independent College Fund of North Carolina.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura contributed $20,000 to the Wake Education Partnership's 2005 Annual Fund for Education. The donation will be used to provide leadership and professional development for teachers, principals and administrators, to foster community engagement, and to conduct research and advocacy on key education issues and needs.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura donated $10,000 to Elon University to assist with the completion of the University's new business center.

  • Rocky Mount, N.C. - RBC Centura sponsored an international baseball clinic and game for Durham boys and girls club members. Players from the USA and Nicaragua players signed autographs for the participants, who also received souvenirs and Bulls Bucks to buy dinner at the park.

International

Local Initiatives

  • Geneva, Switzerland: RBC (Geneva) supported the Food for Life cycling program in Kenya with a gift of $17,000 US. The funds helped provide hot meals for 15,000 needy people per week. This program, considered the most comprehensive vegetarian food relief program available in Kenya, has been running for over five years.

  • Barbados: We pledged $150,000 CAD (over 3 years) to the University of West Indies.

  • Barbados: Our retail bank supported a Business and Professional Women's Club in a Self Development Seminar for Unemployed Women.

  • Antigua & Barbuda: RBC assisted the Government of Antigua & Barbuda through the Ministry of Finance & the Economy to procure 150 Computers from Dell at cost price. The computers were distributed throughout the respective Ministries to allow for easier access of real time information.

  • St. Kitts: We provide bursaries to students who have excelled in their Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams for entry into the State College. Employees also support a charitable club from which monthly donations are made to needy organizations. Accumulated contributions total approximately $120,000 Canadian.

  • Bahamas: RBC supported the following community organizations:

    • $60,000 for the HIV/Kerzner aids initiative

    • $20,000 as financial aid for deserving students

    • $5,000 Lyford Cay Foundation scholarship fund

    • $3,000 Police Dependents' Trust Fund

    • $15,000 to SAFE Bahamas - community group focused on crime prevention

    • $10,000+ to All Saints Camp (HIV/Aids)

    • $10,000 - sponsorship of annual Ministry of Tourism Cacique awards

    • In 2005, our Bahamas units adopted their local Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Afterschool programs for less fortunate children, and additional scholarship funds for top government scholars to attend choice high schools for senior years.
