RBC Employees Ride for Diabetes Research
Every year, one-half million North Americans die as a result
of diabetes and its complications. The Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF) is dedicated to finding a cure for this
potentially deadly disease. In fact, JDRF has funded, in whole
or in part, the research projects of scientists involved in
every major breakthrough in diabetes research for over 25
years.
And while the disease is serious, the fundraising doesn't
have to be. For example, every year JDRF hosts the Ride
for Diabetes Research in communities across Canada, in
which teams race against each other and the clock on stationary
bikes.
In 2004, 1,600 RBC employees across Canada raised $450,000
for the Ride for Diabetes Research. RBC also donated
close to $100,000 to support the cause.
"Not only do we at JDRF believe a cure is close, so
do the employees of RBC Financial Group," said Frank
Cerisano, Vice President, Fundraising and Development, JDRF.
"RBC's employees put in a fantastic amount of effort.
They raised 30 per cent more than they did last year."
In 2005, RBC donated $350,000 to JDRF to help support its
"Closing in on a Cure" campaign, bringing together
diabetes researchers from many institutions and diverse disciplines.
The 2005 Ride for Diabetes Research takes place in cities
across Canada from September to November.
