A sampling;<br><br>\u201cA climate compromise\u201d \u2014 Le Monde (France)<br>\u201cMixed verdict\u201d \u2014 The Times Of India (New Delhi)<br>\u201cFragile deal\u201d \u2014 The New York Times<br>\u201cHistoric finance boost\u201d \u2014 O Globo (Brazil)<br>\u201cProgress on money, standstill on oil, gas, coal\u201d \u2014 DER SPIEGEL (Germany)<br>\u201cVulnerable nations decry lack of fossil-fuel phaseout\u201d \u2014 Al Jazeera Media Network (Qatar)<br>\u201cMultitrao consensus, showcasing unity\u201d \u2014 China Daily (Beijing)<br><br>The&nbsp;mutir\u00e3o&nbsp;spirit, or working together, was as good as the conference could get, given it had compromise at every turn. Here\u2019s what mattered most in the end:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-rbc-list is-style-blue-disc\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>Commitment to a Just Transition facility, aimed at supporting groups and communities most impacted by climate action<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>Commitment to triple adaptation finance, although no clear path to do so<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>80 counties called for a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels, fewer than expected<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>New push for oceans-based solutions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>New emphasis on \u201cinformation integrity\u201d to combat disinformation on climate<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item mar-l mob-mar-l\">\n<p>No significant agreements on deforestation, a setback for many given the summit\u2019s location in the Amazon basin.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>COPs (or Conference of the Parties who signed the UN climate framework) tend to end in a mix of commitment and disappointment. This one was no different \u2014 although given its milestone status and location in Brazil, home to the first Earth Summit in 1992,&nbsp;it fell short of most expectations. Perhaps that\u2019s not surprising, given the state of geopolitics and the global economy.<br><br>Turkiye will host COP31 next year, while Australia will lead the negotiations. Both countries were vying for the lead role, and agreed to share the spotlight.<br><br>Another compromise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"
