Electric vehicle mandate\u2014delayed. Oil and gas emissions cap\u2014all but gone. The headlines suggest Canada\u2019s climate ambition is in retreat. Justin Trudeau\u2019s Liberal government started strong with a number of climate focused funding announcements in its first federal budget in 2016 to about $6 billion, according to our count.<sup><a href=\"#legal-2\" data-dig-id=\"LP-21627-2a9cdfa5\" data-dig-category=\"LP\" data-dig-action=\"link click\" data-dig-label=\"2\" class=\"rbc-link-format\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p><strong>Climate funding has been frontloaded.<\/strong> Since 2016, cumulative budgeted climate-related spending has risen to $150 billion. This includes announced plans towards climate- and environment-related initiatives focused on decarbonization, innovation energy efficiency, fuel switching, clean and low-carbon technology manufacturing and deployment, skills, research and planning. It also includes transfer payments, program spending, tax expenditures, and select public financing. Total expenditure amounts are equally spread over timeframe announced in the budgets. For select items expenditure amounts are distributed over the years as prescribed in the budgets.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rbc-rbc-disclaimer-block\"><div class=\"table-row\" id=\"legal-2\"><div class=\"table-cell\"><span class=\"offscreen\">Legal Disclaimer<\/span><sup>2<\/sup><\/div><div class=\"table-cell\">\n<p>This number only refers to data calculated from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.budget.canada.ca\/2016\/docs\/plan\/budget2016-en.pdf\" data-dig-id=\"LP-21627-12aa8d99\" data-dig-category=\"LP\" data-dig-action=\"link click\" data-dig-label=\"2016 federal budget\" class=\"rbc-link-format\">2016 federal budget<\/a>. data-dig-id=\"LP-21627-ec825d52\" data-dig-label=\"Long-Term Fiscal Cost of Major Eco-nomic Investment Tax Credits\" data-dig-action=\"link click\" data-dig-category=\"LP\"
