All eyes were on the election this week\u2014but something else remarkable was taking place, too. Many of the country\u2019s top Indigenous leaders came to Toronto, and Bay Street, to see how we can better mobilize capital for Indigenous-partnered projects. These conversations are central to the questions we\u2019re grappling with as a country\u2013including reimagining our relationship with our closest ally and building up our economic strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two outcomes\u2014of the election and economic reconciliation\u2014are closely related. Indeed, our economy and trade won\u2019t grow and diversify if we don\u2019t ensure a lot more Indigenous ownership. That was the focus of the annual First Nations Major Projects Coalition Conference, in Toronto, which drew nearly 2,000 people to explore the future of Indigenous capital\u2014and how it is a source of strength for Canada in an increasingly competitive world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s some of what we took away, and questions we need to keep asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
