Entrant qualifications - Submission deadline May 2, 2008
The competition is open to artists in the early stages (first five years) of their professional careers.
For the purpose of the competition, the beginning of an artist’s professional career is marked by the first painting group or solo exhibition in a museum, public gallery, commercial gallery or artist-run centre. Please note that graduated shows or self curated shows are not counted.
Entrants should have completed basic training at an art institution or equivalent. (Equivalent could be a self-taught artist who has taken part in professionally curated shows or has been covered by reputable media.)
Entrants should have achieved recognition from their peers through a painting exhibition record and/or media coverage.
Entrant must be working and living in Canada.
This competition is not open to RBC employees or domiciled with an employee of Royal Bank of Canada or its advertising or promotional agencies, or any of their respective subsidiaries or affiliates.
Artwork qualifications
Artwork must be on canvas or board and comprised mainly of painted media (archival material) with dimensions up to 72”x72” and must be completed between January 1, 2007 and May 2, 2008.
Previously submitted artwork is not eligible, nor is work that has been previously published in any form ie. magazines, newspaper, etc. Potential submissions currently posted on artist’s website or gallery website may be submitted, if removed from the site by the time of entry.
All work submitted for consideration must be available for exhibition for a period of at least seven months. Entrant acknowledges that award includes RBC's purchase of art and rights.
Entrants may submit up to three works for award consideration. To provide context for the entries, artists should submit up to 3 supporting works. These latter works are supplementary only and will not be considered for the competition award.
Digital resolution of submitted
images must not exceed 72 dpi in a jpeg, or gif format. The digital image should be no larger than 6”x6”
