Sandra's Bio

Sandra Lizé was a member of the Canadian women’s water polo team that finished fifth at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. She has won 21 national titles, a 2001 World Championship bronze medal and a 1999 Pan American Games gold medal. Competitive sport has taught her the importance of discipline and perseverance.

Athletic Goals

Now that I retired from the sport, I wish our team had won a gold medal at the World Championship or at the Olympic Games. But I am still very proud of everything we have accomplished and the long road to excellence.

Favourite Olympic/Sporting Moment

Definitely the World Cup 1999 in Winnipeg - it was the first ever Olympic Qualification tournament to be held. The crowd was amazing and we beat the United States 6-4 to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Best Advice You've Ever Received

"Effort: it’s a solo performance that only you can control". Just work as hard as you can every minute of the training, every minute of the game, this is the only factor you can control. At least when this is all over, you won’t have any regrets because you could not have done more.

Being an RBC Athlete means...

I feel really lucky to be able to share my story and my passion with different groups of people. Everyone I have met this year through the program, from colleagues to children and teenagers have been amazing and I really feel privileged that I was able to give them energy with my dynamic speech.
