RBC Financial Group will be an official sponsor until 2012 of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA). RBC's sponsorship will support Canada's elite mogul and aerial freestyle skiers in their development, to ensure they are well positioned for success at the Olympic Games and other International competitions.
Freestyle made its Olympic debut as a demonstration sport in Calgary
in 1988. With the acceptance of moguls as an official medal sport in 1992,
and with the subsequent acceptance of aerials in 1994, Freestyle has gained
even more widespread attention and undergone phenomenal growth in Canada
and internationally.
The Canadian Freestyle Ski Team has amassed over 90 World
Cup medals since 2000, including four medals at the 2004
World Championships. Two individuals, Steve Omischl in men’s aerials and Jenn Heil in women’s moguls, were overall
World Cup champions in 2004.
Canada also captured two medals (silver and bronze) at the 2002 Salt Lake City
Olympics: Deidra Dionne captured the bronze medal while RBC Olympian Veronica
Brenner captured the silver.
