Tournament History

Since its inception in 1904, the Canadian Open has played host to the world's best golfers and produced countless memorable moments. Sports fans around the world have been entertained by legends including former champions Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods,Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk. Jack Nicklaus, considered by many to be the greatest golfer ever, was the runner-up seven times. The Canadian Open is the second oldest stop on the PGA Tour and the third oldest national championship in the world. With its older cousins, the British and U.S. Opens, it constitutes the Triple Crown of national championships.

The RBC Canadian Open’s 100th playing of the championship will be held at Glen Abbey Golf Club, in Oakville, Ontario from July 20th-26th, 2009. Glen Abbey Golf Club is the home of the incredible Tiger Woods 6 iron out of the sand and was the stage of the Mike Weir, Vijay Singh showdown in 2004. What will be this year’s memorable moment?

Mike Weir Charity Classic Entering into the second year of RBC’s support of this great championship, the momentum continues. The 2008 championship was a huge success being recognized by the PGA with the Most Improved Onsite Presentation award and delivering great entertainment value for spectators. 2009 will be no different as a new event called the Mike Weir Charity Classic will take place on July 20th to kick off tournament week and support children’s wellness through the Mike Weir Foundation.
