MIKE WEIR
RBC is the Official Bank Partner of MIKE WEIR
Born in Brights Grove, Ontario, Mike Weir is married to wife Bricia and has two daughters, Elle and Lili. His first PGA Tour win came at the 1999 Air Canada Championship in Surrey, British Columbia. The victory made him the first Canadian to win a PGA Tour event in Canada in 45 years. Since then he’s gone on to take 8 professional victories including a win at the 2003 Masters. He had the whole country cheering in 2007 as he took down Tiger Woods at the Presidents Cup.
Mike is a three-time recipient (2000, 2001 and 2003) of the Lionel Conacher Award, given to Canada's Male Athlete of the Year. He was the first golfer to be honoured since 1932. He received the Order of Ontario in 2004 and the Order of Canada, Canada's highest civilian honour in 2007. Most recently it was announced that he will be inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame
Weir has used his success as a professional golfer as a platform for helping families in need with the creation of the Mike Weir Foundation in 2004. More recently, the Mike Weir Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network have joined to create the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids an intensive national effort to raise $10 million for children’s health care through golf and related activities.
New in 2009, the Mike Weir Foundation has been named as the national charity beneficiary of the RBC Canadian Open. Mike will host the Mike Weir Charity Classic at Glen Abbey Golf Club on Monday, July 20th to kick off RBC Canadian Open tournament week. This high-profile fundraiser aligns well with RBC’s support of children’s wellness as proceeds of the event will support the physical, emotional and educational welfare of children across Canada.
