Encryption
 Encryption is currently the most effective way to securely transmit data over the Internet. We recommend that you use a Web browser that supports 128-bit encryption for all your Internet activities. In fact, you will be required to use a 128-bit browser to access many of our secure Web sites like Online Banking and Online Trading. If one of our secure Web sites requires an encryption level that your browser does not support, you will likely receive an error message when you attempt to login. If this occurs, we recommend that you download a more recent version of your browser.
Security Mechanisms
At RBC, we use several layers of security mechanisms that consist of sophisticated monitoring and reporting processes as well as prevention, detection and response procedures. Emerging technologies and new advances in security are also continuously evaluated and we employ the latest industry best practices to ensure the integrity of our systems and the safety of your information.
Secure Login
For your protection, we require that you "login" to secure areas of our Web sites using your client number (or username) and password. Your password should be kept secret at all times because it is used to help verify your identity before you are permitted access to your accounts and information. If you are unable to provide the correct password, you will not be granted access.
When you login successfully, your Web browser will establish a secure SSL connection between your computer and our Web servers. This will allow you to communicate with us privately and to conduct online transactions safely. To make sure your browser has established a secure connection, look for a security symbol located at the bottom left or right hand corner of your browser. You may also check the address bar of your browser. If the Web site address starts with "https://" rather than the standard "http://", then the session is secured.
Timed Logout
To further protect against unauthorized access to your accounts, our systems are designed to automatically terminate a secure online session if extended inactivity is detected. If your session terminates you will have to login again to continue your activities.
