RBC honours employees with $50,000 gift to JDRF
July 26, 2006 — RBC Financial Group donated
$50,000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in honour
of the company's employees who will be taking part in the
annual JDRF Rides for Diabetes Research in communities across
Canada.
Almost 2,000 employees are expected to take part.
The 2006 Ride for Diabetes Research will take place in cities
across Canada from September to November, with teams of participants
racing against each other and the clock on stationary bikes.
Every year, one-half million North Americans die as a result
of diabetes and its complications. The Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF) is dedicated to finding a cure for this
potentially deadly disease. JDRF has funded, in whole or in
part, the research projects of scientists involved in every
major breakthrough in diabetes research for 30 years.
Since 1989, RBC Foundation has donated almost $2.8 million
to organizations supporting people with diabetes, including
a pledge of $350,000 to JDRF to assist with Canadian research
projects in hopes of finding a cure.
RBC is committed to the health and wellness of its 70,000
employees worldwide and the communities in which it does business.
More than 25 per cent of the company's annual donations are
invested in healthcare causes, including funding for research
and programs that improve community services and enhance quality
of life, as well as supporting health care and research at
both the institutional and community levels.
