RBC is pleased to be the Official Bank and major sponsor of the world’s top public film festival – the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Through this commitment, RBC is building its reputation as the premier bank for the Canadian film industry. Our commitment includes a contribution to the RBC Learning Studio at Bell Lightbox, where innovative education programs will bring the art of cinema and the moving image to adults and children.
RBC is proud to support the events and passions that resonate with our clients and all Canadians. Investing in the arts in Canada is a longstanding priority for RBC, and we recognize the vital role the arts play in enriching the lives of Canadians.
TIFF is widely recognized as the most important film festival after Cannes and the most successful public film festival in the world. For 10 days in September film lovers, filmmakers, industry professionals and media descend upon the city creating buzz and stirring excitement over the films and the talent behind them. During the festival, RBC and TIFF will collaborate to provide clients with exclusive opportunities to attend movie premiers, galas and other special events.
RBC is pleased to create unique opportunities for our clients. One such event is a mystery movie night on September 19 for our N-Gen clients. They will get to experience an exclusive movie screening of a marquee film that won’t be revealed until just before curtain time. And afterwards, attend an after party at the Phoenix Concert Theatre where one of Canada’s hottest bands – Dragonette – will perform.
New in 2009, RBC and TIFF will launch the RBC Emerging Filmmaker’s Competition for TIFF Talent Lab participants, providing up-and-coming filmmakers with the opportunity to showcase their work and artistic talent to the film industry and the world. Twenty-five emerging filmmakers will be given a portable high-definition camera, $500 cash, and challenged to develop a three-to-four minute short film over the next year. A panel of industry experts will review submissions and the top five films will be posted online next Spring. Winners will be announced immediately prior to TIFF 2010, with prizes awarded to the top two jury-selected films and one Favourite, selected from online votes. The national winner will receive $15,000; the honourable mention $10,000 and the Fan Favourite will be awarded $5,000.
