TORONTO, September 16, 2020 - RBC ranked #4 in the global “Top 100 Most Diverse & Inclusive Companies” in the 2020 Refinitiv Diversity & Inclusion Index. The Diversity & Inclusion index ranks more than 9,000 publicly listed companies with environmental, social and governance (ESG) data, based on a composite of metrics collected from publicly available information sources that define diverse and inclusive workplaces.

“We can’t miss the opportunity to create a very different future for our society, including building more inclusion within our companies and in our communities,” said Dave McKay, RBC President and CEO Dave McKay. “Our bank recently announced specific actions to address longstanding institutional inequalities and social injustices against Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). In addition to increasing our staffing goals, we’re also making new commitments to support economic growth and wealth creation for BIPOC youth, communities and entrepreneurs. We believe these commitments are important to encouraging a more inclusive economic recovery in the markets we serve.”

The D&I Index, launched in 2016, ranks the top 100 publicly traded companies globally with the most diverse and inclusive workplaces, as measured by 24 separate metrics across four key pillars: Diversity, Inclusion, People Development and News Controversies.

“This year marks the second consecutive year that RBC has led the Top 100 ranking and we are pleased to recognize its demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion across their organization,” said Debra Walton, chief revenue officer at Refinitiv. “We are delighted that our D&I index continues to be used as a guide to help firms across the globe create a more effective workforce through diverse teams.”

Diversity and Inclusion has been a cornerstone of our Values for years. We have made progress against some of our goals, but there is more to be done. By actively using our diversity, we better develop ideas and people. RBCers are committed to having more conversations about inclusion to better understand each other and value our differences. In order to speak up for inclusion, we need to speak about inclusion.
