RBC provides $2.5 million in support of Syrian refugees and other newcomers arriving in Canada

TORONTO, December 22, 2015 - Today, RBC announced a funding commitment of $2.5 million to support both Syrian refugees and other new immigrants as part of its longstanding history of helping newcomers arriving in Canada. The funds will be used towards settlement, skills development, and employment readiness to assist in achieving successful social and economic integration.

"Thousands of Syrians who left their homeland in search of a safer and more secure place have already begun to arrive in Canada.  We want to help ensure that these new arrivals as well as other new immigrants are given the opportunity to build new lives for themselves and their families,” said Dave McKay, President and CEO, RBC. “We have been helping newcomers settle in Canada for decades. RBC and its employees take pride in providing assistance and support that builds a strong foundation for new Canadians and ultimately contributes to the rich fabric and prosperity of our country. This is reflective of the values and enduring commitment Canada has shown towards new immigrants over the years. I also wish to thank our employees who have stepped forward, volunteering in their communities to make Syrian refugees feel welcome, supported and included.”

Today’s announcement includes RBC’s earlier contribution of $400,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of Syrian refugees. Customers of RBC can continue to make donations to the Canadian Red Cross at their local branch.
