Field Continues to Strengthen for 2012 RBC Canadian Open

PGA TOUR notables Paul Casey, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Day, Charl Schwartzel, Kyle Stanley, Justin Leonard, Bo Van Pelt, Jonathan Byrd, Stuart Appleby and Marc Leishman added to field that includes previously announced headliners Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, Webb Simpson, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els and Hunter Mahan

Oakville, Ont. (Golf Canada) - The field for Canada's National Open Championship continues to strengthen as Golf Canada and RBC announced today that 12 more notables have indicated their intent to play the 2012 RBC Canadian Open, July 23-29 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

Among the list of players added to the field include Paul Casey, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Day, Charl Schwartzel, Kyle Stanley, Justin Leonard, Bo Van Pelt, Jonathan Byrd, Stuart Appleby and Marc Leishman, winner of this past weekend's Travelers Championship.

The group joins an RBC Canadian Open field that includes previously announced headliners 2012 PLAYERS champion Matt Kuchar, two-time Canadian Open champion Jim Furyk, 2012 US Open champion Webb Simpson, 2-time major winner Retief Goosen, World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els and world No. 10 ranked Hunter Mahan as well as defending RBC Canadian Open champion Sean O'Hair.

Golf Canada and RBC also confirmed today that PGA TOUR fan-favourite John Daly, a 5-time PGA TOUR winner and 2-time major winner has accepted a tournament exemption to compete at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Also accepting a tournament exemption is former PLAYERS and British Open champion David Duval.

The following players have been added to the field for the 103rd playing of Canada's National Open Championship, July 23-29 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club:

Jonathan Byrd

  • 5-time PGA TOUR winner
  • Currently ranked No. 45 in the world and No. 39 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Charl Schwartzel

  • 2011 Masters champion
  • Currently ranked No. 17 in the world and No. 89 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Brandt Snedeker

  • 3-time PGA TOUR winner including the 2012 Farmers Insurance Open
  • Currently ranked No. 26 in the world and No. 24 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Jason Day

  • 1-time PGA TOUR winner (2010 HP Byron Nelson Classic)
  • Currently ranked No. 21 in the world and No. 115 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Kyle Stanley

  • 1-time PGA TOUR winner (2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open)
  • Currently ranked No. 57 in the world and No. 15 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Paul Casey

  • 1-time PGA TOUR winner (2009 Shell Houston Open)
  • Currently ranked No. 60 in the world and No. 224 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Stuart Appleby

  • 9-time PGA TOUR winner

Justin Leonard

  • 12-time PGA TOUR winner including the 1997 British Open and 1998 PLAYERS Championship

John Daly

  • 5-time PGA TOUR winner including the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 British Open

Marc Leishman

  • 1-time PGA TOUR winner (2012 Travelers Championship)
  • Currently ranked No. 78 in the world and No. 23 on the FedEx Cup points chase

David Duval

  • 13-time PGA TOUR winner including the 1999 PLAYERS Championship and 2001 British Open

Sean O'Hair

  • 4-time PGA Tour winner
  • 2011 RBC Canadian Open champion

Bo Van Pelt

  • 1-time PGA TOUR winner (2009 US Bank Championship)
  • Currently ranked No. 32 in the world and No. 37 on the FedEx Cup points chase

Players have until 5:00 pm ET on Friday, July 20 to officially confirm their intention to compete in the 2012 RBC Canadian Open.

On July 3, Golf Canada and RBC will announce a list of Canadians and other international competitors that have been extended tournament exemptions to compete in the 2012 RBC Canadian Open.

RBC signs #10 Ranked Player in the World Hunter Mahan

RBC today announced that it has added WGC Accenture Champion, 5-time PGA TOUR winner and US Ryder Cup member Hunter Mahan to its roster of brand ambassadors who will carry the bank's brand at tournaments around the world.

Debuting this week as a Team RBC member, Mahan will have the RBC logo on his apparel, outerwear and golf bag. RBC now enjoys partnerships with some of the games brightest new stars as well as experienced veterans with multiple major championships under their belts.
