RBC seeks Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes for its
community ambassador program
Opportunity to share experiences with Canadians, get financial
aid and garner vital career skills
TORONTO, June 15, 2010 RBC today announced
its annual search for national team athletes or retired Canadian
Olympic and Paralympic athletes to be a part of the RBC Olympians
Program. Now in its ninth year, the program provides Canadian
athletes with valuable work experience and funding to help
them succeed in competition and in life after sport.
"Sharing my Olympic experience and personal passion
for sport with Canadians is thrilling and I feel like I am
truly making an impact," said Jennifer Botterill, RBC
Olympian. "RBC appreciates the demands facing athletes
today, offering flexible work schedules, generous funding
and relevant career training. The RBC Olympians Program helps
athletes like me succeed, whether it's starting a new career
or competing for Canada at the Olympic Games."
The RBC Olympians Program encourages athletes to act as community
ambassadors in cities and towns across Canada - to share past
experiences and Olympic accomplishments with students, communities,
clients and employees. These athlete ambassadors work to champion
and raise awareness about the importance of sport in daily
life, inspiring the next generation to be physically active,
make healthy decisions and participate in sports, no matter
the level.
RBC is looking for a number of national team athletes or
retired Olympians and Paralympians to apply for the RBC Olympians
Program, in major cities across Canada for a one-year contract
beginning in September 2010. The deadline for applications
is July 19, 2010. More information about the RBC Olympians
Program can be found at www.rbc.com/sponsorship/rbcolympians.
Committed to supporting amateur sport in Canada from grassroots
to elite-level athletes, RBC has had over 140 Olympic and
Paralympic athletes participate in the program since its inception
in 2002. Some of the athletes who have participated include:
Jennifer Botterill, Ice Hockey, 2002, 2006 and 2010 gold medalist;

podium as well as valuable work experience for a career after
sport," said Chris Overholt, chief operating officer,
Canadian Olympic Committee.
