TORONTO, January 13, 2010 RBC today announced
a $100,000 donation to the Red Cross to support relief and
humanitarian efforts in Haiti.
"The scale of this disaster is enormous and its impact
has been devastating to thousands of people and their communities,"
said Gordon Nixon, president & CEO of RBC. "We have
a long-standing tradition of responding when communities are
in need, and on behalf of our clients and employees, we are
proud to support the relief effort with a donation."
"The Red Cross is responding on the ground to the needs
of the Haitian people as quickly as possible," said Conrad
Sauvé, secretary general of the Canadian Red Cross.
"Thanks to the network of Red Cross Societies, everyone
can be confident that their Red Cross donations are reaching
people during this difficult time."
The most urgent needs identified by the Red Cross are for
search and rescue efforts, field hospitals, emergency health
services, water purification, emergency shelter, logistics
and telecommunications. RBC has requested that, where appropriate,
its donation to the Red Cross be directed to ensuring survivors
have access to clean drinking water.
