RBC Capital Markets appoints co-heads of its Global Energy Research platform

Top-ranked research team continues to expand
RBC Global Energy and Power Conference underway in New York

NEW YORK and TORONTO, June 2, 2009 — RBC Capital Markets today announced the appointment of Kurt Hallead and Greg Pardy as Co-Heads of Global Energy Research to oversee the firm's growing global energy research platform.

In these new positions, Hallead and Pardy will coordinate research on macro themes, oversee expansion of the firm's coverage universe and direct overall research strategy, in addition to continuing their current publishing and research roles with the firm.

"The energy industry is a core competency of RBC. By coupling the expanded capabilities of our global research platform with our deep relationships and insights into the sector, we can help our clients better position themselves to capitalize on the world's growing demand for energy," said Hallead, who is based in Austin.

Under the leadership of Hallead and Pardy, RBC will bolster its already robust global energy research platform to include the integrated oil and international energy services sectors as well as increase its focus on commodities. Currently, the firm's energy research platform includes traditional exploration and production companies and energy services, as well as energy infrastructure, master limited partnerships, power and utilities.

"Our extended research focus will provide clients with a full spectrum of investment ideas in the global energy sector through insightful, thematic and original research. Few banks are as committed to the energy industry, or to providing this level of high quality research on its various sub-sectors, as RBC," added Pardy, who is based in Toronto.

RBC will showcase its global energy platform at its annual Global Energy and Power Conference which is being held June 1 - 2, 2009, at the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park in New York. More than 400 institutional investors and corporate executives from 200 presenting companies in the exploration and production, oilfield services, energy technology and power sectors will be in attendance.

A Top 5 Global Energy Research, Trading and Banking Platform
RBC's Global Energy team ranks among the top five global energy research platforms in financial services, based on breadth of coverage. The team features more than 30 research professionals based in Austin, Calgary, Dallas, Edinburgh, Houston, New York, Toronto and Vancouver, who cover more than 230 energy and energy infrastructure equities and fixed income securities.

"More and more clients are demanding sophisticated coverage that can only be achieved through a strong presence in research, banking and trading, and we are building just that. The growth potential for our global energy research franchise is extremely promising," said Hallead.

RBC is ranked among the most active traders of equity and fixed income securities related to the energy sector in North America and Europe. Its global energy corporate and investment banking teams have nearly 100 professionals located in Calgary, Houston, London and Toronto dedicated to the energy sector.

RBC's Commodities group also has sought to expand its footprint strategically in the energy sector. Today, oil, natural gas and power currently represent the primary portfolios with more than 30 professionals situated in Toronto, Calgary, Houston and Cincinnati.
