RBC donates $100,000 to Canadian Red Cross Myanmar cyclone fund

TORONTO, May 16, 2008 — RBC today announced a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support the relief and humanitarian efforts in Myanmar.

"We have a long-standing tradition of responding when communities are in need, and on behalf of our clients and employees, we are proud to support the relief effort with a donation," said Gordon Nixon, president & CEO of RBC.

"The Red Cross Movement is responding to the needs of cyclone survivors as quickly as possible, particularly through the efforts of more than 27,000 local Red Crescent volunteers trained and ready to act," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general of the Canadian Red Cross. "Thanks to the worldwide network of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Canadians can be confident that their Red Cross donations are reaching people during this difficult time."

In the wake of this type of disaster, where affected people are exposed to potential outbreaks of water borne disease, RBC has requested that its donation to the Red Cross be directed to ensuring survivors have access to clean drinking water.
