Nine students recognized through RBC Undergraduate Scholarship
awards — top three win once-in-a-lifetime learning experience
TORONTO, December 18, 2007 — Nine undergraduate students
will receive a financial reward to assist them with tuition
and school-related expenses after being named recipients of
the 2007 RBC Undergraduate Scholarship awards. The top three
applicants will be awarded "gold" prizes each worth
$5,000, as well as one-of-a-kind personal experiences chosen
by the winners themselves. Three "silver" and three
"bronze" scholarships are also being awarded, at
$3,000 and $2,000 respectively.
This year's educational experiences selected by the top
three are a four-day photography workshop in Ottawa; a meeting
with Ron Joyce, co-founder of Tim Horton's and a former Entrepreneur
of the Year; and an excursion to Halifax to learn about marine
wildlife and human and environmental health and safety.
"We know many undergraduate students are looking for
real-world experiences that will better prepare them for their
future," said Kavita Joshi, national director, Student
Markets. "By participating in practical, hands-on activities,
we hope these well-deserving students will take home valuable
lessons that will stay with them both in school and long after
they graduate."
Scholarships were awarded to students based on their community
involvement and written responses to six essay questions relating
to creative and practical ideas for innovation and improvement
in the fields of business, science or visual arts.
