RBC expands support of clean, green power

Three additional RBC Royal Bank branches now bullfrogpowered™

TORONTO, February 1, 2007 — Bullfrog Power™, Ontario's first 100 per cent green electricity retailer, today announced that three additional RBC Royal Bank branches are now bullfrogpowered. This green power purchase is in addition to the nine RBC Royal Bank locations already bullfrogpowered in the GTA. The new expanded contract further secures RBC's position among the top tiers of commercial green power purchasers nationwide.

By choosing Bullfrog Power for several key Ontario locations, RBC, a recognized global leader in sustainable business practices, advances its ongoing commitment to reduce its environmental impact by supporting renewable energy sources. RBC was among the first financial institutions in Canada to purchase green power and is active in financing companies in the alternative energy sector in Canada and internationally.

Bullfrog Power is the first and only 100 per cent green electricity retailer in Ontario. Bullfrog Power sources power exclusively from wind and low-impact hydro generators that meet or exceed the federal government's Environmental ChoiceM Program EcoLogoM standard for renewable electricity. Bullfrog Power provides businesses, non-profits, and consumers with a new way to support renewable power.

The three newly bullfrogpowered RBC Royal Bank branches are:

  • Innes & Lanthier Branch, Orleans (Ottawa region) - Opening Spring 2007
  • Oak Ridges Branch, Richmond Hill
  • Gordon & Kortright Branch, Guelph

With the expanded agreement, the total amount of green, carbon-free power produced by Bullfrog's generation partners on behalf of RBC will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1,000 tonnes annually.

"The decision to extend our commitment to Bullfrog Power reflects our ongoing efforts to reduce emissions across our operations," said Chitwant Kohli, Vice-President, Corporate Real Estate, RBC. "We're pleased to support the generation of clean power."
