RBC Capital Markets appoints Alistair Sawers to head infrastructure and project finance group for Western Region

Firm continues aggressive expansion of its U.S. infrastructure platform

NEW YORK, November 2, 2006 — RBC Capital Markets today announced that it has further bolstered its U.S. Infrastructure and Project Finance Group with the appointment of Alistair Sawers to head the firm's Western U.S. operations. The appointment is the latest step in the firm's rapidly ongoing expansion of its U.S. infrastructure finance business and comes on the heels of its recent expansion into the Australian market with the establishment of an infrastructure team in Sydney.

Sawers joins RBC as a Director and will immediately assume responsibility for the firm's Western Region operations. He will be based in Boston briefly before relocating to San Francisco early next year.

"We are very pleased to be joined by someone of Alistair's caliber and experience," said John Hastings, Head of RBC Capital Markets' U.S. Infrastructure and Project Finance Group. "His success in Europe combined with his U.S. experience makes him a very valuable addition as we continue to build on our unique ability to combine local knowledge with global expertise in serving both our U.S. and international clients."

Sawers has a wealth of infrastructure and project finance experience, having worked on a wide range of projects, including the BART's Oakland Airport Connector, the M6 toll road in the UK, the Arlanda Express in Sweden, and the RAV rapid transit line in Canada. He has worked on more than 30 transactions in 12 countries over the past few years.

He was most recently with Ernst & Young, where he headed the firm's U.S. Transportation PPP (public/private partnerships) Advisory team, advising U.S.-based clients on PPP initiatives. Sawers had previously led the firm's focus on highways in its London office, including advising on the $6 billion Moscow-St. Petersburg Highway and for Strabag on the E18 road in Norway. Prior to that he was with AMEC, a project sponsor, in the UK and before that spent six years with Bank of America Project Finance, including two years in San Francisco.

"I think this is a brilliant time to join such an aggressively expanding team. Having used RBC Capital Markets as a financier in my past work as a sponsor/investor, I have the utmost regard for the institution and its staff," Sawers said. "I look forward to helping the bank achieve the same level of pre-eminence in the U.S. market that it enjoys in the UK and Europe."

RBC Capital Markets has added six senior professionals to its U.S. Infrastructure and Project Finance practice in the past six months alone. The moves build on the firm's longstanding infrastructure capabilities in the UK, Europe and Canada.

"The continued growth of our Infrastructure and Project Finance practice is a clear priority for RBC Capital Markets as we continue to integrate our strong U.S. public finance business with the firm's top tier global practice in debt structuring and infrastructure finance," said Chris Hamel, RBC Capital Markets' Head of Municipal Finance Banking.
