RBC seeks next great innovator

Challenge asks students’ input about future of Canada’s financial services industry

TORONTO, September 20, 2006 — RBC today announced the call for entries for the first RBC Next Great Innovator Challenge. Winners will be announced in March 2007 with the top team receiving $20,000.

The RBC Next Great Innovator Challenge asks university and college students across Canada to take a peek into the future and answer the question: “Tell us how today’s teens will influence the financial services industry of tomorrow and describe an innovation, idea or concept that financial services should consider in light of this influence.”

“Today’s teens will have a significant impact on the future of the Canadian financial services industry and we want to know how they think financial institutions should adapt in order to remain competitive,” said Dr. Anita Sands, Head Innovation and Process Design at RBC. “The RBC Next Great Innovator Challenge is our way of gaining better insight into, and understanding of, our younger clients and their unique perspective on the exciting future possibilities for Canada’s financial services industry.”

In teams of three or four, students must submit a unique and innovative idea related to the Challenge. Teams must register their intention to submit a proposal online before October 31, 2006. All completed proposals must be submitted by January 26, 2007. All submissions will be evaluated by the RBC Applied Innovation team and narrowed down to the top 15 submissions. These 15 submissions will then be reviewed by the RBC Innovation Council and the top five submissions will be chosen.

The top five teams will be brought to Toronto for the final evaluation by the RBC Next Great Innovator judging panel consisting of some of RBC’s top executives. Teams will have 15 minutes to present their idea to the judging panel and 15 minutes for questions and answers with the panel. The final presentations and awards ceremony will take place on March 29, 2007 in Toronto. For more information on the challenge, visit www.nextgreatinnovator.com.
