Gay Mitchell

Executive Vice President,
Strategic Business Development
BIOGRAPHY

As Executive Vice President, Strategic Business Development and Vice Chair, Royal Trust Corporation, Ms Mitchell is responsible for building RBC Financial Group's customer and market profile within Canada's top enterprises and families as well as cultural markets, on a national basis.

Prior to her present position she was Regional President, Ontario, responsible for the overall management of RBC Financial Group's retail, investment and commercial businesses and markets in the province of Ontario. She also acted as Executive Vice-President, Products, Personal & Commercial Banking, following a term as Executive Vice-President, Personal Financial Services, responsible for the bank's deposit, residential mortgages, investment, lending, marketing and sales activities, nationally. Ms Mitchell moved into these line roles following her assignment as Head of Human Resources, responsible for RBC Financial Group's Human Resource function worldwide. In 2003 and 2004, Ms Mitchell was recognised as one of Canada's Top 100 most powerful women in Canada.

Ms Mitchell has spent much of her career working directly with the bank's customers in a variety of roles. She was also closely involved with the financing and growth of our knowledge-based industry market segment. Since joining RBC in 1974, Ms Mitchell has held a variety of increasingly responsible positions servicing our customers and communities in numerous locations. In addition, she occupied a number of Head Office roles such as Risk Management, Special Loans Group, and Human Resources.

Ms Mitchell's present directorships and memberships include: Capital Campaign Chair, Trillium Health Centre Foundation and Director, Trillium Health Centre Foundation; University of Alberta Business Advisory Council; Member of the Board of Directors, Toronto Board of Trade; Board of Directors of The Canadian Club of Toronto; Director, Canada China Business Council; Board of Governors of Junior Achievement for Toronto and York Region. She also works closely with the United Way, Greater Toronto Area, including having served on the Board of Governors and on the Cabinet. Contributions to supporting public-private partnering has also occupied her interests since 1990's, through a variety of appointments including: Ontario Government project called "Removing the Barriers to Doing Business in Ontario"; Director and Chair of Ontario Centre's of Excellence; Chair, Advisory Committee on the Centres of Excellence; Vice-Chair, Toronto Board of Trade City Governance Task Force.

Ms Mitchell holds an MBA from the University of Alberta and also has a BA in Economics from Queen's University. Ms Mitchell and her husband have two children.
