Our annual challenge for technology-focused students

This challenge opportunity allows students to design and develop working prototypes that will address the challenge theme – in the form of a Web, Mobile or Desktop Application. We also encourage 1 or 2 business-focused students for the benefit of each team to have presentation skills and a business focus.

The RBC's NGI Hackathon is an amazing opportunity to display your ideas, creativity, and problem-solving skills for a grand prize of $10,000! As part of this Challenge, you will:

  • Be given the challenge theme and question a week before the event (at the Orientation Evening)
  • Have 1 week to prepare your best concepts, designs and mock-ups
  • Have access to business coaches and resources
  • Present your proposed solution to RBC judges
  • Get an opportunity to meet with RBC recruiters
  • Details of the competition will be provided in-depth at the Orientation Evening (a week before the event).

The RBC NGI Hackathon will be held for two days, 1 night. You can bring materials and resources prepared ahead of time and use the time provided at the event to finalize your design, code and develop your idea into a working prototype.

This Challenge is open to full or part time undergraduate or graduate students who (1) attend a recognized publicly funded university or college in Ontario or who are recent graduates (graduated spring 2016 or later) or (2) who are residents of Ontario. All Team Members must remain resident in Ontario until after the 24-Hour Coding Session and Winner’s Presentation in September 2016 to be eligible to participate.

Forming your team

Your team must contain between 1 and 5 students.

You may choose to enter as a team of friends or classmates, or form your team after you register. **However, each team member must register individually.**

What you need

We will provide facilities, power, food and refreshments. You just need to bring your laptop, ideas and your enthusiasm (and of course any other equipment you think is important, such as extra monitors, an external keyboard, mouse, etc.)!
