The Gold Standard - Inside and Out

Not only is the RBC Centre certified as LEED® Gold for New Construction, we are also proud to announce that the interior construction of our space has attained LEED® Gold certification, making it the largest LEED® Commercial Interiors (CI) project in Canada.   • Installation and use of Energy Star® appliances only;
  • Comprehensive recycling and organics collection program;
  • Diversion of over 75% of interior construction waste from landfill;
  • Over 20% of the materials used to construct the interior space were made of recycled content;

California Dreaming

California Dreaming

The RBC Capital Markets Emissions Trading Group is going to California! The California Carbon Cap-and-Trade Program is finally due to launch after years of legislative process. California has an ambitious goal to return to 1990 carbon emission levels by 2020. The first phase of compliance for California emitters will begin this January and initially covers power generation and heavy industry with emissions from transportation and commercial fuels being phased in by 2015. The program also allows for the use of offsets (up to 8%) for compliance. RBC's goal as a market participant is to provide hedging solutions for our customers. We are already active in this space, trading California Carbon Allowances (CCAs) on a forward basis and we will also participate in the upcoming allowance auction scheduled for November 14th.

RBC Wealth Management Staff Help to Restore Wetland

Wetlands

RBC Wealth Management staff assisted in the restoration of an ecologically important wetland and bird habitat on the Channel Island of Guernsey. The Guernsey Conservation Volunteers (GCV) were helped by RBC staff in tackling an area that had become overrun with vegetation not native to reed beds such as brambles and pampas grass. The land had also been used as a general dumping ground for household waste. Angela Salmon, Group Coordinator for the GCV said, "this is a very important habitat for breeding birds so to get all the help we can to turn it into a thriving reed bed as quickly as possible is marvelous." Francis Binney, Environment Officer for RBC Wealth Management said, "Wetlands are not only important for the birds, beasties and bugs that live in them - they also form a key part of the Island's natural water management, acting like a sponge for both excess rainfall and as a filter for pollutants and fertilizers in the waters."
