An update from RBC Corporate Sustainability Group May 2014

New and Notable

Setting the Direction to Do Better

RBC is proud to announce the launch of the new RBC Environmental Blueprint, a roadmap for how we will approach environmental sustainability from now until 2018. We know that every roadmap needs a destination, so our new Blueprint is complete with some aggressive goals, targets and a new focus area. So, what's new in the RBC Environmental Blueprint?

Hard targets for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of office paper we use
Commitment to reduce electronic waste we send to landfill down to zero
Pledge to double the amount of LEED certified space we occupy
Adding "sustainable communities", which joins climate change and water, as one of our three priority environmental issues
Expanding our long-standing environmental and social credit risk management policies to cover all regions where we operate

Could We Accomplish One Million Acts of Good?

In March, more than 12,500 employees from 35 countries participated in the enterprise-wide RBC One Million Acts of Good campaign. As the title of the campaign suggests, our target was to complete 1 million positive actions that fell into one of three categories – employee wellness, caring about communities and the environment. The campaign website developed by GreenNexxus featured a state-of-the-art tracking system that calculated the cumulative impacts of the acts undertaken, including environment benefits such as greenhouse gas emissions avoided, energy and water saved. Over the three-week campaign we tracked an outstanding 967,000 acts of good, including 623,000 acts of green. We are pretty happy with results, but plans are already underway to exceed the 1 million target next year!
