Employee Involvement

Employee InvolvementBy volunteering time and expertise, RBC employees and retirees play a vital role in helping to build the prosperity and quality of life of their communities. Whether they sit on boards or are a leader of their local Girl Guide troop, RBC salutes their efforts.

At RBC, it pays to volunteer. In fact it pays $500 every year! RBC employees and retirees who volunteer 40 hours or more can be recognized with a $500 grant to the charity they give their valuable time to.

We recognize that our personal time is valuable and limited so in 2007 RBC launched a program to support employee teams of 10 or more that participate in walks, runs and bike rides that raise much needed funds to charitable organizations within Canada.

Variety Makes Volunteering Fun!

Cindy Carroll, a Senior Account Manager for RBC Royal Bank, and an RBC employee for the past 22 years has been volunteering at FEED NOVA SCOTIA, a charity focused on feeding hungry people. For almost a year and a half, Cindy has volunteered at the Apple Blossom Festival parade, rattled coin jugs at the Holiday Parade of lights, sorted food at the Christmas warehouse, walked for Walk Nova Scotia, wrapped gifts at a FEED NOVA SCOTIA gift-wrap booth, and lent a hand at Hunger Strike, and the annual CBC Food Drive.

In addition to regular volunteer services, Carroll involved her RBC co-workers by spearheading a FEED NOVA SCOTIA food drive among the Halifax and Dartmouth Royal Bank branches, and organizing a staff team to wrap gifts at a local gift-wrap booth to raise funds in support of the organization. Carroll says the best part about volunteering is the variety of ways she can help. "It is a phenomenal cause, and there are just so many fun things you can do to volunteer," she says.

In 2007/2008, FEED NOVA SCOTIA distributed 1.8-million kilograms of food, valued at $14.4-million to approximately 150 Member Agencies. Member Agencies include local food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, school programs and other food programs throughout Nova Scotia.
