Why is cricket relevant today?
With so many newcomers to Canada being from cricket-loving nations, it makes good physical and cultural sense to embrace all that cricket has to offer. Here's why:
- Canada's cultural communities value and appreciate cultural recognition.
- Public school boards, corporations and organizations support Canada's evolving demographics by embracing activities that are part of the history, heritage and identity of cultures around the world.
- Cricket is growing in popularity around the world, including in Canada. Youth cricket is the best way to capitalize on the trend.
- A formal school cricket program will mirror what is happening informally across Canada as youth play cricket whenever and wherever they can.
- Cricket supports learning outcomes beyond physical education: self-confidence, interpersonal skills, teamwork, integrity and fair play are encouraged and taught with an organized cricket program.
- Cricket is accessible to students regardless of social class, gender or ethnic background.
From the ground up
RBC Royal Bank has a long tradition of supporting amateur sport at all levels. By investing in cricket, RBC can help elevate awareness of cricket and ensure future generations embrace the values and teachings.
To accomplish this, RBC has taken a ground-up approach and introduced the RBC Wicket Cricket Program so that schools and communities can benefit from a quality cricket program.
RBC Wicket Cricket for fun and easy program setup
RBC Wicket Cricket makes it easy to set up organized cricket play in a short period of time.
Developed for students in kindergarten to Grade eight, RBC Wicket Cricket lets children at all physical abilities play. And since many schools simply cannot dedicate resources to equipment, RBC Wicket Cricket is making RBC Wicket Cricket sets available for schools that register for the program (while quantities last).
These sets contain everything you need to start a cricket program:
- 6 stumps (wickets) with bases
- 2 sets of bails
- 2 bats
- 2 balls
- 6 cones to make boundaries
- 1 official RBC Wicket Cricket carry bag
Teachers, community recreation leaders and coaches will also appreciate the many resources that have been developed to learn about and teach cricket to elementary school-aged children.
