Vincent Joli-Coeur joined RBC Capital Markets in 2001 and
is now a Managing Director in the Montréal office, covering
investment banking and corporate lending for our Québec-based
clients.
Vincent is pictured with Justine Soulières, 8, in
the RBC executive boardroom. They met through his volunteer
work with Leucan.
Justine underwent cancer treatment recently and is in remission.
She was elected President of Leucan for a Day and on February
8, Vincent took her on a tour of the RBC offices to celebrate
her Presidency.
“I spend many hours every month trying to help them, but I
have to admit that I receive more from them than I give.
Not only does it make me feel better, but it makes a difference
in the workplace at RBC."
Leucan, headquartered
in Montreal with 8 regional centres in pediatric oncology
centres, offers a full range of services, counseling and
recreation options. It also offers children with
cancer and their families services adapted to their needs,
such as information and referrals, financial assistance,
emotional support and massage therapy. There is an outreach
program to help school peers understand and accept kids
with cancer and a weblink of computer games to amuse kids
in and out of the hospital.
They also offer
social and recreational activities such as Camp Vol d’été (“Summer
Flight”), a summer camp with a medical infrastructure
where children under treatment can have a family vacation,
and Christmas parties attended by more than 1,400 guests.
For older kids, Leucan offers Cœur d’espoir
(“Heart of Hope”),
a self-help group for teenagers aged 12 to 18 offering
recreational activities that enable teenagers with cancer - and their brothers and sisters - to
create lasting and genuine friendships. Finally, the Journées
Coccinelles (“Ladybug Days”) provide activities
for younger children.
Vincent was
involved in Leucan’s recent 25th anniversary publication
of “Porteurs d’espoir: 25 portraits” (“Carriers
of Hope: 25 Portraits”), inspiring interviews with
25 young people who have survived childhood diagnosis of
cancer, some for over 20 years.
