RBC Children’s Mental Health Project

15-20% of Canadian children and adolescents (1.2 million), at any given point in time, will suffer from a mental illness of sufficient severity to cause significant distress and impaired functioning.

In April of 2007 RBC convened a panel of experts from across Canada to determine how RBC can have the greatest social impact on children’s mental health issues.

Grants of up to $50,000 will be provided to organizations that deliver community based programs that meet established criteria. Funding proposals will be assessed individually to determine appropriate grant amounts.

Our funding will be focused on mental health programs and services that meet the following criteria:

  • Programs that support children from age 0 to 18 and their families
  • Programs must be delivered in Canada
  • Programs must have a proven record of success, preferably supported by an evidenced based model.
  • Programs will focus on:
    • early intervention and prevention
    • working with families to
      • obtain assessment and diagnosis
      • locate and access required community and health-care support
      • develop an integrated treatment plan

In April 2008, RBC will be launching our formal granting guidelines, which will outline the types of programs that we wish to support.
