RBC donates $100,000 to pediatric palliative care
There are approximately 3,000 families in Quebec who have
a child afflicted by a terminal illness: 1,800 of those live
in the Greater Montreal area alone.
But, unlike other provinces in Canada, Quebec does not
have any facilities dedicated to provide care in the final
moments of a terminally-ill child's life, and neither does
the province have any palliative care units in any of its
pediatric hospitals.
The Lighthouse Home, to be built in Montreal, will be the
first dedicated facility in Quebec to offer pediatric palliative
care, respite services and support services to children with
terminal illnesses and their families.
Construction for the Lighthouse Home is scheduled to be completed
by spring 2006, and when complete, the facility will welcome
up to 250 children and their families each year.
RBC is donating $100,000 over three years in support of this
project.
