RBC donates $30,000 to the Shaw's Actor Apprentice program
At the start of any career, you need that first big break
to boost your professional experience.
RBC has a proud tradition of supporting emerging artists
in a number of fields, such as dance, through the National
Ballet Apprentice program; opera, through the Canadian Opera
Company's Ensemble Studio; and visual arts, through the RBC
Painting Competition. In 2005, we added performing arts to
this circle, with a donation of $30,000 to the Shaw Festival's
Actor Apprentice program.
This program allows students to gain professional acting
experience through performances in several of the Shaw Festival's
plays. During this apprenticeship, students receive coaching
and are mentored by senior members of the acting ensemble.
The Shaw Festival, Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, began as
a tribute to Bernard Shaw and quickly grew into an ensemble
of actors and producers who produce dramatic works of Bernard
Shaw and his contemporaries. Since 1962, this not-for-profit
organization has produced 10 to 12 plays each season, with
over 800 performances in its three theatres, and entertained
almost 300,000 people.
Since 1989, RBC has donated $692,000 towards the Shaw Festival.
