RBC boosts Emergency and Trauma program with $2 million
donation
June, 2005 — The Emergency
and Trauma department at Sunnybrook and Women's College and
Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario, does more than
just treat patients: it also tries to prevent people from
becoming patients in the first place.
The Office of Injury Prevention, a vital component to the
hospital's emergency and trauma department, delivers preventative
educational programs to schools and communities across Ontario.
The goal of the Office of Injury Prevention is to reduce the
incidences of death and injuries caused by accidents.
RBC Foundation's $2 million gift will be used to expand the
emergency and trauma department, including doubling the capacity
of the preventative educational programs, to reach more students,
adults and seniors in Ontario.
In fact, to honour RBC's contribution and support of this
initiative, Sunnybrook & Women's is renaming the Office
of Injury Prevention: RBC First Office of Injury Prevention.
"There is currently a waiting list of schools and community
groups who would like to participate in the preventative educational
programs," said Joanne Banfield, manager of the RBC First
Office of Injury Prevention. "RBC's donation will not
only help reduce their waiting time, but will allow us to
reach out to 42,000 more people, and educate them on injury
prevention; so many more lives will be saved."
Over 32 years, RBC has contributed close to $3.5 million
to Sunnybrook and Women's, in support of their high quality
of healthcare, groundbreaking medical research, and the education
of future medical leaders.
