Mothers honoured on Habitat build site

May, 2005 — More than two dozen mothers joined Canadian television celebrity Mag Ruffman and other volunteers to celebrate Mother's Day by building a Habitat for Humanity home in Toronto, Ontario.

"What better way to honour your mother than by helping families in need," said Habitat for Humanity Toronto CEO Neil Hetherington. "Habitat's partner families' determination and commitment to making a better life for their children is a constant source of inspiration."

Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity Toronto has welcomed volunteers to build simple, decent houses in partnership with low-income families. This first-ever Mother's Day build, held at Habitat Toronto's downtown Rotary Drive build site, was supported by a $50,000 donation from RBC Foundation.

"All mothers want their children to be safe and secure with a roof over their heads. I feel privileged to be spending this Mother's Day as a tribute to my own mother and a legacy for my son, by helping provide a much-needed home for someone else's family," said RBC volunteer Annette Dukszta.
