RBC donates $75,000 to Ducks Unlimited Canada

Group has announced a donation of $75,000 to support "Adopt
a Class," a program offered by Ducks Unlimited Canada
(DUC) to provide urban children with a chance to experience
nature firsthand.
This is the second year of RBC's support for "Adopt
a Class." In 2004, RBC provided $50,000 to fund 80 classes
in Ottawa and Saskatoon. Each received classroom resources
to help them learn more about wetlands, with each student
also receiving a Wetland Field Guide to keep as their own.
The classes also had the opportunity to experience the environment
firsthand through a trip to a local wetland.
This year, RBC's donation will fund 130 classes in Ottawa,
Saskatoon, Calgary and Toronto, help provide binoculars, field
guides and dipping nets for the children, and support site
improvements such as interpretive signs.
"We recognize that many urban children have no interaction
with nature," said Merebeth Switzer, National Education
Coordinator for Ducks Unlimited Canada who also adds that
the educators' enthusiasm for this program has been overwhelming.
"They understand that these children have few opportunities
to experience nature within their own communities of highrises,
roads and shopping malls."

and they are going to play a very important part in ensuring
a healthy, dynamic world for us all," said Stephen Voisin,

the chance for them to gain a bit more understanding about
the natural world around them."
