RBC tops Report on Business "Corporate Social
Responsibility" ranking
TORONTO, February 25, 2005 - RBC
has been named top bank in Canada for "corporate social
responsibility" in the second annual Report on Business
ranking. RBC tied for first place in the banking category.
Jantzi Research, the Globe and Mail's Report on Business
magazine and GlobeScan teamed up to conduct this second annual
ranking of social and environmental performance of major companies
in Canada. The findings covered 109 companies in 13 sectors.
Companies were scored and ranked based on indicators across
six categories: community and society, corporate governance,
customers, employees, environment, and human rights.
Over the years, RBC's leadership in corporate responsibility
and corporate governance has been recognized by a number of
global organizations and indices:
- The company is listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability
Index, the Jantzi Social Index and the FTSE4Good Index,
recognizing financial, social and environmental leaders.
- RBC was rated tops for both corporate governance and corporate
responsibility in the annual KPMG/Ipsos Reid poll of "Canada's
Most Respected Corporations," the latter for the tenth
consecutive year.
- Early in 2005, RBC was named to a list of the "Global
100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World."
RBC produces an annual Corporate Responsibility Report, outlining
its policies and performance relative to integrity in business
practices, support for economic prosperity and the environment,
and involvement in community causes. The 2004 edition of this
report was just released. RBC also produces an online "Sustainability
Report", based on the categories suggested by the Global
Reporting Initiative (GRI). Both reports are available at
www.rbc.com.
