RBC has established a $10-million pool of capital to finance and catalyze enterprises that deliberately tackle social and environmental challenges while generating a financial return.

What we're investing in

The RBC Generator aims to generate market, or near-market, returns and seeks investment opportunities in mission-based organizations based in Canada. Investment opportunities will be evaluated based on their potential to deliver benefits in at least one of our four strategic areas:

• Energy
• Water
• Employment for youth
• Community hiring, or employment for disadvantaged groups

The fund targets investment opportunities ranging from $25,000 to $500,000 through a flexible range of structures, including debt and equity. RBC will also consider follow-up investments of up to $500,000 for organizations with proven scalability that require additional financing.

RBC will also provide advisory services, metrics and valuation support as appropriate to help investees reach their maximum potential.

Our goal is to provide organizations with specialized financing structures today to help them to build on their success and attract commercial financing tomorrow.

Environmental and social impact

The impact of an investee organization should be quantifiable and reportable. RBC will work with the successful investees to measure community impact.
