May 29, 2013 - OTTAWA - RBC wore two hats during the first-ever Riverboat Gala. We were not only a sponsor of this fundraising event for Ottawa Riverkeeper, but took the opportunity to present the watershed protection organization with its 2013 RBC Blue Water Project leadership grant of $100,000 at the event as well.
The gala, held in support of Ottawa Riverkeeper, welcomed a number of well-known Canadians, including Mark and Diane Carney, TV journalist Evan Solomon and a handful of Juno nominated musicians.
RBC regional president Jeff Boyd was on hand to announce the grant. The sold-out gala raised a total of $150,000 for Ottawa Riverkeeper. Guests were treated to a sunset sail on the Ottawa River complete with live music from Sam Roberts and Kathleen Edwards and local food prepared by top Ottawa chefs. The event was one of Mark Carney’s last as governor of the Bank of Canada.
Ottawa Riverkeeper was one of 123 organizations worldwide to receive grants totalling $2.3 million from the RBC Blue Water Project in June, 2013. Since 2007, RBC has pledged over $38 million to more than 650 charitable organizations worldwide that protect water, with an additional $7.8 million pledged to universities for water programs.
