Top RBC Money Managers Give Back

Award winners connect in the Caribbean to help meet the needs of local children and families.

Earlier this year, a number of RBC top Wealth Management professionals invested some time in making a social contribution. They came to the Caribbean from seven different countries, to celebrate their recognition as leaders in their field. They received awards for their business success, and gave back to communities in the Caribbean.

The international delegation of 35 volunteered with their local peers at the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel in Nassau. They assisted with general repairs to the facility which provides temporary accommodations, food, clothing and medical care for abandoned and neglected children. In addition, RBC Wealth Management committed US$25,000 towards the management and purchase of materials for this project, which will aid in the hostel’s efforts to provide local children with needed care.

“The donation of time and money by RBC Wealth Management will make our home much more comfortable and allow us to focus on our larger mission of finding permanent arrangements for the children under our care,” said Marita Ferguson, administrator of the Children’s Emergency Hostel.

A separate group of 36 participated in a similar volunteer effort with Habitat for Humanity in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The team spent two days working at a local Habitat for Humanity worksite and gave US$25,000 towards improving the conditions of ten houses in the local area. Improvements provided through the donation will include upgrading leaking or unstable roofs, laying concrete in place of dirt floors and installing proper bathrooms in place of outdoor latrines.

“As a global business, we take great pride in our efforts to give back to the communities in which we live and work, and continue to encourage our employees to volunteer for initiatives like this,” said George Lewis, Group Head, RBC Wealth Management.
